Another dish compliments of the coal region of Pennsylvania.

This is a Polish/Slavic favorite.

Halushki

1 head cabbage
1 package wide noodles
Onions to taste
Butter
Salt and pepper

Variation 1: Cook wide noodles and drain. Cut up cabbage, onions, add butter and water. Cook until cabbage is done, making sure no water remains (5 to 7 minutes). Pour cabbage over noodles and mix well. Add salt and pepper.

Simple to make and quite tasty. This is a good dish to make and take to picnics and parties. Simply place the finished result in a slow cooker and away you go!
LK, that sounds like it is going to give you a whole lotta gas! Does it?
My husband is Hungarian and they have a recipe similar to that, but you shred the cabbage and saute it untill it's a deep golden brown and then mix it with the egg noodles and lots of pepper. It's a pain in the butt to make and I hate when he requests that for dinner. Your recipe sounds easier.
Variation 2 is very similar to what Sally's husband likes.

Same ingredients but you dice the cabbage and onions then saute' them with butter (LOTS of butter).

When done to the point that they have softened mix them with the boiled and drained noodles and season to taste.

There are some who also add potatoes that have been cut into 1/2" cubes and cooked along with the cabbage and onions.

It can.

If you eat it at an event like a wedding reception or fireman's convention (read that as LOTZ of beer at the gathering) then YOU BET IT DOES!
