Home Made Yogurt
#1
Home made yogurt is so easy to make and so good for you too. I always have some in the house.

You can use this so many ways too.
Throw fresh or thawed frozen fruit in it - way better than store bought!
use it for dipping meat in - yes meat
make soup out of it
Make smoothies
add granola for some crunch
dried fruit

Just use your imagination!

Yogurt

Ingredients:
1 quart whole milk
2 tablespoons plain whole yogurt.

Do NOT use low fat milk or yogurt! (more on yogurt in the sticky)
You will need a heavy earthenware or ceramic bowl with a lid
One wool blanket - must be wool!

Heat milk over a medium heat in a large heavy pot until it rises, then allow to coo enough to be able for you to insert your little finger in and count to 10.

Pour into an earthenware pot, pyrex bowl or ceramic bowl with a tight fitting lid and stir the starter yogurt in until thoroughly mixed.

Cover and place in a warm spot out of any drafts and wrap the woolen blanket around the bowl.
Let sit undisturbed for 6 hours, then remove the blanket and place in the refridgerator until the next day.

Take out about 2 tablespoons of the new yogurt and place in a small, covered glass jar and keep in the refridgerator. This is your new starter yogurt for your next batch!

alternate method if you don't have a wool blanket:
heat oven to 150°F and leave in there for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat leaving the pot in there for 6 hours.

Note: be careful on how much starter you put in. If you put too much you will have a sour tasting yogurt.
