Magic Cookie Bars
#1
Anyone remember these? They used to be on every can of condensed milk when I was younger. I don't see them there now and I am so happy I put the recipe in my little file so many years ago!

Magic Cookie Bars

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
6 ounces semi sweet chocolate pieces (chips)
3 1/2 ounce flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans, nuts are your choice)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (325 for glass pan)

In 13 x 9 pan melt butter in the oven.
Take out and sprinkle graham cracker crumbs evenly over the butter.
Pour condensed milk over the crumbs evenly.
Top evenly with the rest of the ingredients.
Press down firmly.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly brown.
Cool.
Chill if desired. Cut into bars.

Store loosely covered at room temp.

Finally made a batch of these for Christmas so I was able to add a photo to the original post Smile1

I also want to add a few tweaks I made for this recipe.

Chocolate chips - didn't follow the instructions much. I shredded (with a grater) some dark chocolate and didn't use as much and added "by eye". I think it came out much better this way and I didn't use half as much as the recipe called for.

I added half the milk AFTER assembling all the ingredients then added a few more coconut flakes and added the rest of the milk.

I brought a batch of these to friends yesterday and was told, "These cookies are crack." Smile1

That's how you know you did it right! Half the tray was gone before I left. I was there two hours.
